“Be the change that you want to see in the world.” Ghandi
Why is this important?
Organizational culture is dictated by the attitudes and behaviours of its leaders and trickles throughout the ranks.
When people read quotes like this, the challenge is to consider that the world we live in is created by our own choices, actions and reactions throughout the minutia that makes up the day.
Leaders who must find solutions to costly difficulties like losing clients, poor productivity, low employee engagement, high turnover, poor quality, or nasty office dynamics must start their search by auditing their corporate culture and will find that the source of the problem is embedded in leadership style.
Leaders must champion the attitudes and behaviours that they expect their employees to embrace because; like the butterfly that flutters its wings at one end the world begins the momentum to create the tsunami that will crash down at the other side.
If a leader says that s/he expects employees to show respect and fairness to each other, but then promotes the tyrant because s/he gets results that look good on the spread sheet, then the words about respect and fairness are ignored and tyranny is copied. Leaders, be the culture you want to see in your company.
